The Cultural-Historical Significance of Brskovo in the Medieval Period: From Historical Importance to Tourism Valorization

The medieval mining town of Brskovo, the remains of which are located today within the territory of the Municipality of Mojkovac, Montenegro, represents a significant cultural-historical heritage and a symbol of the centuries-long mining tradition of this region. This article analyzes historical facts, starting with the earliest recorded mention of Brskovo in written sources dating to 1243, the arrival of Saxon miners, the initiation of mining activities and trade during the Middle Ages, and the archaeological investigations conducted to date. Based on historical and archaeological evidence to date, as well as archival materials, the paper examines the potential to valorize cultural-historical resources to develop specific forms of tourism. Particular emphasis is placed on the revitalization of historical facts confirmed by archaeological research, through the concept of sustainable tourism valorization. The article highlights the potential to revitalize the historically significant area of Brskovo into an attractive tourist destination while preserving its historical and cultural values.
